## Project Description
Challenge: negotiations at the intersection of technology, law, and geopolitics

The rapid growth of renewable energy in Poland in the early 2010s brought major infrastructure constraints. For foreign investors, the primary barriers were strict energy laws and limited connection capacity on the National Power System (KSE). Throughout 2010, commissioned by a leading German wind turbine manufacturer, I interpreted during strategic discussions with transmission system operator Polskie Sieci Elektroenergetyczne (PSE).

The talks concerned issuing and fine-tuning connection conditions for large-scale wind farms to the national transmission grid. The brief carried exceptional weight: it required not only expert interpreting skills, but also a thorough grasp of the geopolitical and regulatory factors shaping regional energy security.

Interdisciplinary interpreting: from electrical engineering to legal detail

Negotiations at executive and engineering levels required navigating seamlessly between distinct domains. On one hand, dense electrical-engineering terminology (short-circuit parameters, EHV substations, system stability, power transformers, phase-shifting transformers, unplanned loop flows). On the other, complex questions of construction law, transmission easements, and EU and national tariff regulations.

The primary challenge was time pressure. Meetings with authorities and PSE were intense and tightly scheduled. My role was to provide accurate consecutive and whispered interpreting that maintained the momentum of high-stakes commercial negotiations. Every term was closely monitored by bilingual client representatives present in the room. Management viewed the negotiation outcomes as critical to financial models, rollout schedules, and final multi-million-euro connection contracts. This multi-stage interpreting support in Warsaw helped the German group navigate regulatory hurdles and secure its long-term interests in Poland's critical infrastructure.

Above all, this assignment reinforced a fundamental truth: thorough preparation is essential for high-level technical interpreting. This serves as a vital takeaway for any organisation hiring external interpreters: providing background materials and context in advance is critical to ensuring precision and project success.
